Theres a bit of secret to that map. You have to build yourself up all the way before venturing out. One thing I always strive to do is create a market loop as soon as possible. That place behind your base where the crash site is, you can build there if you cut down some trees. I send my lumber patrol in there to start harvesting and once I get some space I put a market clear up the path to the flower pot of insanity. I put another one in my home base and then create at least four caravans. Two per market. They then trade endlessly back and forth and give you a steady income of resources. I wait until I get the trench upgrade and then send my lovely archers to various spots on the map to hide. This allows me to where the patrols are at all times. I can then make a stone mine clear in the back near the destroyed bridge and have a team of workers harvest it up to three loads at a time before having to hide back near the mine in order to avoid detection. Then its a matter secretly building traps and using the wildlife to cause hell. Using mortars to destroy the nests is the best solution as they die quick in close combat so the dinos can eat them and then terrorize the surrounding area without being tethered to their nests. It's only total machine rape if you allow both camps to attack you once. This is a map where the true Dragon Clan playing style comes into play. You must kill without being seen for as long as possible. Until you got a formidable base and mighty army to sweep all before you. I use archers mostly as scouts for this mission and they are damn good at it.
Thats why the dilophosaurus nest is so much fun. You have an entire army of killer dinos with traps mixed in for the lulz. They mostly attack from the back door anyways so thats the best place to put it. Just have to make sure you catch the scouts. Quite a few times on my last play through I had to hav Stina run after the bastards. They aren't normal scouts either, they are level three so you need something fast and level 4 or a couple level 3's to catch it and kill it. You also have to stay out of sight of the base and make sure you save often so that you can come back to a point of safety if you get caught before your ready.
